About Us

All Saints School is a rural, primary Church of England Voluntary Aided School within the Diocese of Ripon & Leeds, administered jointly by the Diocese and North Yorkshire County Council.  There is a record of a school in Kirkby Overblow from around 1700.  The school building on the present site dates from 1782 when it is recorded that the Rector, the Revd. Dr. Cooper and his wife gave to the building of a school.  This was extensively refurbished in 1870 at the expense of Lord Harewood.

The school has four classrooms and a hall.  The outdoor learning environment is excellent.  There are two playground areas, a large playing field and a wildlife area that incorporates a pond.  There is also a play trail and a quiet area called ‘The Dragon’s Garden’.

An aided school is so called because the voluntary body which provides and maintains the premises is financially aided by the state, to the extent of 90% of the cost of external maintenance;  the governors are responsible for the remaining 10%.  The local education authority pays for internal maintenance, staffing and other costs.  The governors, the majority of whom are foundation governors appointed by the voluntary body, have greater responsibilities than those in other maintained schools.  They are the employers of the teaching staff (and, unless other arrangements have been made with the LEA, of most non-teaching staff as well);  they decide the school's policy on admission of pupils; they control the curriculum (in accordance with the provisions of the National Curriculum); and they oversee religious education and collective worship in accordance with the school's trust deed.

Church Schools, as they serve the community in which they are set, seek to be distinctive in the education they offer.  The Christian ethos which underpins all their work, and the particular attention that is given to the spiritual and moral development of pupils, makes them special.  We aim to provide your child with a sound education in an atmosphere of Christian love and care.
